Udta Punjab - Trippy and High

Udta Punjab is hindi/punjabi drama film directed by Abhishek Chaubey based on drug menace & drug abuse which is happening in the state of Punjab. The movie starts with packet of heroine flying from Pakistan to India border which is caught by nameless labouor from Bihar (Alia Bhatt) who works on farm field there and entire events unfolds how drug cartel works in Punjab which introduces several main characters of movie. It shows UK based pop artist Tommy (Shahid Kapoor) who is always on drugs and has big fan base especially youth who are inspired by him to be high. Its has Dr. Preet (Kareena Kapoor) who works tirelessly to help the youth and kids who are addicted to drugs and also works as a social worker to stop unauthorized sale of drug through pharmaceuticals shops. Diljit Doshan plays corrupt cops as Sartaj Singh who is okay to make cut from drug smuggling but get his conscience back when he sees his own brother addicted and nearly get a life from drug abuse. The movie explain the drug cartel over Punjab through these characters as well as politics of drug business in beautiful way.

Abhishek's way of presenting the story is terrific and keeps you interested however the movie lacks it's speed in certain parts. The movie already has a great star cast but its Alia Bhatt's great performance will win you over. I am so impressed by her portrayal as Bihari laborer and her flawless acting as a matured actor. She is simply suberb. Another great delight is to watch Diljit Doshan who steered his character with simplicity and Kareena is also absolutely perfect in her role. Shahid's offer variation and given another superb performance as Tommy however at certain point you will find him bit over board. Abhishek's direction and cinematography is excellent especially the way movie is summarised at the end.

It's a great movie and I am glad high court made it release without any cuts, you must watch it.

Ugly - The Dark Dirty World

Ugly is a movie directed by Anurag Kashyap is about a girl Kali who get kidnapped when she was with her father, Rahul Kapoor played by Rahul Bhat who was divorced from Shalini played by Tejaswini Kolhapure who is married to angry police chief Soumik played by Ronit Roy. The moment Kali gets kidnapped and Rahul lodges police complaint the movie unfolds series of drama and shocking truth from kidnapping, ransom and how selfish any person can go in their greed even with their closest family members and friends.
Like other movies of Anurag Kashyap, Ugly is perfect in all aspect except few loopholes in story where the dots can't be connected logically. The most unique thing about the movie is the several characters shown in movie and which was perfectly played by each actors by giving most realistic performance. Apart from superb direction, thrilling story line, the main thing stands out is Ronit Roy acting as an angry self obsessed cops who is hated and feared by everyone. Another delight is to watch Girish Kulkarni who played inspector Jadhav and Vineet Kumar Singh who played friend of Rahul Bhat.
Its definitely good watch if you love thriller and good cinema making.

Gangs Of Wasseypur: The Bloody Revenge jo sabki kah ke lega

Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW) is a story of two groups within Muslim community in a small town during the british rule in india when coal mines were established. The film starts showing two rivalries between Qureshi & Pathans where the pathan Sajid Khan has been forced to leave Wasseypur with his pregnant wife to Dhanbad. There he starts working for Coal Mine's contractor Ramadhari Singh who eventually kills him as Sajid Khan was planning to overtake him. Sajid Khan's son Sardar Khan vows to take revenge from Ramadhari Singh and start forming gangs and looting Ramadhari Singh's establishments and becomes a biggest goon in that area. The revenge story goes from generation from British rule to 70s and then 90s and also on backdrop shown how wasseypur and their people's life got affected whereas the rivalry stayed as it was.
There is not Hero or Good or Bad reference in the movie. The movie depicts the true social color of a society at different times and it's transformation. The USP of movie is it's characterization and the way every cast has given justice to it. The role which stands out is of course Manoj Bajpai and Richa Chaddha as Nagma. The movie shown shades of grey, love, lust, fear in each characters. The other amazing performance was a pleasant surprise by a great filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia who played Ramadhari Singh. I must say each everyone even in smaller avatar was at their best.
The another integral part of movie is the story telling, editing, background score, OST which was perfect with the scenes and yes not to miss the cinematography & all the location which is used while making this movie.
This really takes Anurag Kashyap to next level and the movie shows the hard work & honesty he put in making this movie.
Gangs Of Wasseypur is anytime can be rated as Cult and it is going to be one of the Bollywood Classic.
